A field of 1,627 took part in this year's World Championship of Online Poker Main Event at PokerStars, generating a total prize pool of $8,135,000. After 22 levels of play on Day 1, only 176 are left vying for the $1,646,300 first-place prize. Leading the way with a stack of 649,769 is "NUTZBOT", but there's still plenty of work to be done.
Still in the field for Team PokerStars are Eugene Katchalov (273,015), Matthias "mattidm" De Meulder (254,378), Johnny Lodden (231,518), Mickey "mement_mori" Petersen (177,253), and Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier (42,426). Amazingly, but hardly surprising, Katchlov will also be returning in the $10,000 8-Game High Roller event tomorrow heads-up. Can Katchalov capture not one, but two WCOOP bracelets tomorrow?
Play resumes at 2pm ET tomorrow and will play down until the next WCOOP Main Event Champion is crowned. Thanks for following along with us today and be sure to be back here at PokerNews tomorrow for all of the exciting Day 2 action.
The last hand at each table has been dealt, bringing Day 1 to an end.
Bryn Kenney min-raised to 8,000 from early position and action folded to "akia86" on the button who re-raised to 17,855. The blinds folded, putting the action back on Kenney. After a few moments Kenney shoved for 76,769 and was insta-called by his opponent.
No help came for Kenney as the board rolled out to burst the bubble.
After Marty "TheLipoFund" Mathis raised to 8,000 in early position, action folded to Mike "goleafsgoeh" Leah on the button.
With three players left until the money, Leah was in no rush. "Take 5 gents," he said. After a few players voiced their displeasure, including Davi "supernova9" Stern, Leah responded, "Have to count my chips, 1 sec".
While Leah tanked, two players were eliminated, thus beginning hand-for-hand play. Still, Leah made his move on the bubble and shoved for 61,923. The rest of the table folded, giving Leah the pot.
